Submission Guidelines
Submissions should be sent via e-mail (link below) as an attachment (.doc, .wpd. or .wps). The document should include the following components:
Dark Silo Press does not accept snail mail submissions. Save your paper.
We publish supernatural horror. We are not interested in slasher, slipstream, urban fantasy or comedies. Graphic violence and language is okay. Gratuitous use is not.
We will consider stories of 40,000 words or more. Writers should consider the following style preferences:
We think Lovecraft was a genius, but passive language, abstract descriptions and reactive protagonists won’t work for us.
We verify receipt of your submission within two business days. We anticipate a turnaround time of 30 days on all submissions that meet the requirements listed above. Please be patient with our process – we’re a small operation.
Your marketing plan should include your audience and how you intend to reach them. Your plan should list publications you intend to secure reviews from, your Web presence, Internet sites that will review or support your novel, any specific platform you can use to promote your book and additional plans you have to guarantee sales.
Please don’t send us anything that doesn’t meet these requirements. The “shotgun” approach to submissions is the publishing industry equivalent to spam. We are confident you will get a better response if you review the requirements of individual publishers and target only those that currently work in your genre.
And the best way to get a feel for what we publish is to read our books. Authors who want to publish with a small press should support small press publications.
